Food Crisis Relief<\/strong><\/h1>\n

In the fall of 2024, Nuba Water Project collaborated with NCDO, an on-the-ground partner, to provide much needed food to stave off starvation in the western region of the Nuba Mountains. Food supplies were short after a poor rainy season and a locust infestation devastated crops. An influx of over 700,000 refugees fleeing the conflict in Khartoum has exacerbated the situation.<\/p>\n

Kogoria Well Repairs<\/strong><\/h1>\n

\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a>In 2022, major repairs were completed on four bore hole wells in the Kogoria area, providing clean water to hundreds of people in the area in time for the dry season to begin.<\/p>\n

Arang Well and Water Tower<\/strong><\/h1>\n

\"\"<\/a>Nuba Water Project is collaborating the local Sudanese from the Arang region and Rotary International to construct a well and water tower that will provide clean water for 3,000 people and 3,500 cattle.\u00a0 The plan is to drill a 67 meter deep well, install a submersible pump powered by a battery\/solar panel system, and install a 13,000 gallon water tank onto a tower.\u00a0 (See sample in photo)<\/p>\n

Water Pump Repair Parts – Purchase and Delivery<\/strong><\/h1>\n

The Nuba Water Project coordinates the purchase and delivery of water well repair parts to the Nuba Mountains. Many wells throughout the Nuba Mountains and Sudan are broken and inoperable, making clean water inaccessible to the people there.<\/p>\n

By providing and transporting repair parts from Kenya through Juba to the Nuba Mountains, we enable residents to make simple repairs and replacement of parts, thereby helping themselves with access to clean water.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Salera Village<\/strong><\/h1>\n

\"\"<\/a>Salera Village was lucky to have 15 bore holes…but 13 of them were inoperable.\u00a0 A $5,000 grant allowed them to fix six of the broken wells in the summer of 2019 and there are enough pipes left to fix more.<\/p>\n

Safi Drops<\/strong><\/h1>\n

\"\"<\/a>Nuba Water Project provides Safi Drops to people in the Nuba Mountains.\u00a0 One drop of Safi in a gallon of dirty pond water will kill all the bacteria in 30 minutes, thereby proving clean water for people who have to gather water from lakes and ponds.<\/p>\n

Education Scholarships<\/strong><\/h1>\n

The Nuba Water Project supports the education of Nuba refugees who have fled to South Sudan, Uganda or Kenya and would be unable to attend school otherwise due to the crisis in the Nuba Mountains. This financial support comes in the form of tuition, boarding school fees, books, and living expenses.<\/p>\n

Support has also been provided to secondary schools in the Nuba Mountains.<\/p>\n

University Scholarship Recipients<\/strong><\/h1>\n

\"\"<\/a>Morsal<\/strong> started medical school in Uganda in 2021 to become a surgeon.\u00a0 He previously worked in the one hospital in the Nuba Mtns and is focused on returning to his home country to open another medical facility so people don’t have to walk so far for medical help.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Glario <\/strong>graduated with a degree in electrical engineering from a university in Kenya in 2021 after overcoming many obstacles throughout his educational journey.\u00a0 He has returned to his home village in the Nuba Mountains to apply his expertise and help his people.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Angelo<\/strong> graduated in 2021 with a degree in Agriculture from a university near Kampala, Uganda.\u00a0 With future plans to start a demonstration garden in the Nuba Mountains, he also has a dream of venturing to Europe for a one-year internship.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Manal<\/strong> received a Journalism and Communication degree in Kenya with the purpose of returning to the Nuba Mountains and promoting girl child education.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Rania<\/strong> attended university in Kampala, Uganda. Her degree in public\/community health has allowed her to make an impact helping her people in Khartoum and in the Nuba Mountains through a mobile clinic.\u00a0 She was selected in the summer of 2019 to present at a Doctors without Borders conference in Geneva, Switzerland.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Mary Kuku\u00a0<\/strong>earned her Master’s Degree in Community Health in Kampala.\u00a0 She now has traveled three times into the Nuba Mtns to teach workshops on clean water\/sanitation.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Crisis Relief\/Delivery of Medical Supplies<\/strong><\/h1>\n

Nuba Water Project has delivered crisis relief supplies, including soap, salt, medicine, and medical supplies to the Nuba Mountains in 2011\/12 and 2012\/13. Due to the Khartoum government-sponsored attacks on innocent civilians in the Nuba Mountains, we have been unable to work in that area and develop water infrastructure for the past two years. Thus, we have designated donations from our annual fundraiser, the Walk for Sudan, toward crisis relief for those survivors who have fled to nearby caves and to refugee camps across the border into South Sudan.<\/p>\n
